The parking lot is on the right if you are heading southbound on Skyline Drive near mile marker 57. They'll be gladly to offer you one free of charge and it will help you figure out a generalized direction on the trail. If you need a map for this trail, ask the rangers, at the entrance of the park where you pay, for a Bearfence trail map. The scramble can be tricky so know your limits and take your time. The best time is when it is cooler as the haze from the heat prevents you from seeing the Shenandoah Valley all the way past Harrisonburg, VA. I have seen it Spring, Summer, and Winter. Most importantly, have fun and enjoy the view. This is also a rock scramble so bring hiking boots, watch for snakes, and just be careful. One's a 360 view and then the next one is a 180 view.
